PHFR – Small Beauty, Everywhere

~Capturing the context of contentment in everyday life, as inspired by the women at Like Mother, Like Daughter~

{Pretty}

Last Friday, we ventured into the chilly morning, the girls and I did. While they explored and played and chased each other around the yard, I looked for the small and the overlooked: in the last of the shasta daisies, hanging on against all odds; in the drops of water suspended on spiders’ webs in the sandbox, on the world reflected back to me in the morning dew. I looked for beauty, and it was there for the finding.

{Happy}

Another day, another chance to explore the wonder available to us just outside our door. We wandered down to the creek at the bottom of our property on Tuesday and, despite the chilly temperatures, the water proved to be too much a temptation for a small girl to avoid. Dangling a stick (found at the top of the hill and dragged down with us for the express purpose of sticking one end in the creek) held her attention for quite some time, but, in the end, was not enough to keep her from wading into the “really, really, REALLY big puddle” we found in the swampy end of the meadow.

I love that we live in a place where they can explore, where they can play and dream and imagine, where the beauty of the outdoors beckons.

{Funny}
Abby, when asked a question to which she does not know the answer, has started lifting her hands in a shrug. She walks around the house this way at times, as though she’s perpetually uncertain or confused. It’s rather adorable, if you ask me (though I fully admit that I might be biased in this matter).

{Real}

On occasion, the best time to oil the kitchen counters (which were in desperate need of it) comes on a Saturday afternoon. When this happens, since you still need to feed your family, you improvise. You give thanks for modern appliances, which allow you to cook anywhere. Like the bathroom. Because when you have a curious toddler and your kitchen counters are out of commission, you don’t really have another choice.

(Side note: Jonathan made dinner on Saturday. I just documented his flexibility.)

Those are the {pretty, happy, funny, real} moments around here this week. How about you? Capture any contentment lately?

    Are those first few pictures from your phone or a camera? They are beautiful! I love Abby’s confused, hands up pose. It’s so cute when kids start expressing themselves with gestures like that. I remember when my nephew started putting his hand on his hip when he was correcting you on something and saying, “Actually…” It was so bossy but adorable.

      Thanks, Jamie! I’ve been getting my DSLR out more often, so all of the shots in this post are actually from it and not my phone.
